what’s the difference between ACT and TOEFL?

Hi!
I came in USA but someone told me that u have to take a test ACT or Toefl. Which of them should i take?What’s the difference
are they the same or ACT is better to take?

  1. answers! says:

    The ACT is a college readiness assessment, similar to how colleges view the SAT. TOEFL, on the other hand, is used for students outside of the United States that need to demonstrate their ability in English.

    If you intend on applying to a 4 year college, definitely take either the ACT or the SAT.

  2. Sue says:

    The TOEFL and ACT are two very different tests. To get into a university in the US from a country where you speak a language other than English, you will most likely have to take the TOEFL. The SAT and ACT test are standardized tests that all high school students must take to get into US universities. You might have to take one or both of these, so check with the particular university you are interested in.

    What is the TOEFL?

    TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It quizzes non-native speakers of English on their reading, listening, writing and (usually) speaking skills.

    Taking the TOEFL requires the same skills that students need to succeed in a US college or university. That includes the ability to listen and respond to lectures, read textbooks, write papers and communicate with professors and other students.

    More than 6,000 institutions in the US and 109 other countries accept TOEFL scores. Students take the TOEFL at more than 4,000 test centers in 180 countries.
    Who Should be Taking the TOEFL?

    The TOEFL is for students who are at the 11th-grade level or above. Many colleges and universities require a minimum total score for admittance.

    Taking the TOEFL is not always required, even if you are a non-native speaker. Check with the colleges and universities that you are thinking about attending. For example, if you earned a degree or diploma from a college or university in an English-speaking country, taking the TOEFL might not be necessary.

    ACT Exam and ACT Test Dates

    The ACT has four sections:

    * English
    * math
    * reading comprehension
    * science

    An essay section is optional.

    It is offered six times per year: once each in September, October, December, February, April and June (Be aware: The September exam is offered in only select US states).

    Scores are generally available only less than three weeks after the exam, and score reports are mailed three to eight weeks after the exam.

    If you completed the optional essay section, you should receive your score five to eight weeks after the exam date.
